Family Visa FAQs

How much does a family visa consultation cost?
$110 for migration consultations with Mrs. Manisha Bhutani, our Registered Migration Agent. Student visa consultations are free with Sachin Sachdeva. That $110 covers a full assessment of your situation, eligibility check, and a clear plan forward. No hidden charges later.

Can I work while my partner visa is processing?
Depends on your current visa status. If you're onshore on a valid visa, you may have work rights. Bridging visas issued during partner visa processing typically include work rights. Offshore applicants must wait for their temporary partner visa grant before working in Australia.

What's the Balance of Family Test for parent visas?
You need at least half your children living permanently in Australia, or more children in Australia than any other single country. Step-children and adopted children count. Only natural and legally adopted children are considered - not step-children through marriage. This test doesn't apply to Subclass 870 temporary parent visas.

How long do health checks and police clearances last?
Both are valid for 12 months from issue date. Strategic timing matters - get these done when you're close to application lodgment or when requested by the Department. Don't rush them too early or they'll expire before processing completes.

Can same-sex couples apply for partner visas?
Absolutely. Same-sex relationships receive identical treatment under migration law since 2017 changes. Marriage certificates from countries with marriage equality are recognized. De facto same-sex couples follow the same 12-month cohabitation requirement or state relationship registration pathway.

Do I need a migration agent for family visas?
Family visa applications involve complex requirements across relationship evidence, documentation standards, and government processing systems. A registered migration agent understands exactly how these elements work together to create strong applications. We know which evidence carries most weight, how to present relationship stories convincingly, and what triggers delays or requests for additional information. Mrs. Manisha Bhutani has guided thousands through this process. She spots potential issues early, strengthens weak areas of your application, and ensures everything meets Department expectations before submission.

Why are government allocations important for family visas?
Partner and child visas operate as demand-driven categories without strict caps, but parent visas face rigid government limits. The 2024-25 migration program allocates 8,500 parent visa places split between contributory (6,800) and non-contributory (1,700) streams. Understanding these government allocations helps set realistic expectations about processing timeframes and queue movements.
